Single Stage Risers

Lightweight and portable single stage risers with collapsible aluminium risers. Suitable for universities, schools, government organizations, bars, hotels, churches and resorts.

Constructed with an extruded aluminium frame and coated plywood top, these lightweight yet durable stage risers have a large loading capacity and excellent deflection and dampening dynamics that allow for comfortable performances. Multiple single units can be clamped together quickly and easily to form a modular stage system.

The original collapsable stage or spider stage design comes with a choice of 20cm, 40cm, or 60cm tall riser leg units. These have now been joined by the latest lightweight RD750 stage platform series which includes those heights and adds 80cm and 100cm riser options.

A full range of stage accessories is available, with riser stage steps, stage handrails, clamps, and molten fabric skirts to create a professional look for your mobile staging system.

Frequently Asked...

Is a riser the same as a stage?

Technically no, not originally anyway, but the terms are now used interchangeably, especially for low-height platforms.

The traditional definition of a riser is a tiered structure (usually 3 or 4 stepped rows) that's often used for choir performances or for musicians in chairs. This is still the case, but the name has also absorbed and intertwined with stage risers, which is the name for lightweight portable staging. Stage risers use an umbrella-type folding leg mechanism for easy transport.

What is a stage riser platform?

As above, a stage riser platform is the name given to a lightweight stage deck system which features a folding riser leg unit. These 1m x 1m footprint risers fold in a concertina-style to a convenient size that's easy to carry and store. The detachable stage surface, or platform, is quickly attached to the riser to form a solid structure.

These riser stage platforms feature simple deck-to-deck connections allowing for the fast construction of large praised performance areas, or a more traditional choir riser by using riser leg units of increasing heights to create tiers.

What is the standard riser platform size?

Designed for the ease of transport in a standard car, cupboard storage, and simple construction by a single person, stage risers use a standard platform size of 1m x 1m. The thickness of the platform will vary but is usually between 30mm to 80mm depending on brand.

2m x 1m platforms were available for a time, though newer lightweight riser systems have favoured just the 1m x 1m format for its obvious size and handling advantages.

What are stage decks made of?

All our professional stage decks and riser stage platforms feature a marine ply top in either 15mm or 18mm thickness. This is then surfaced with an extremely durable black phenolic resin finish with the famous ‘hexa’ pattern textured grip design.

These are embedded flush into an extruded aluminium frame with an internal structure that provides immense weight-loading properties and resistance to deflection (bowing under load). The vibro-finished aluminium frame is smart looking while being completely rust-proof and of course, very lightweight when compared to traditional steel-framed stage decks.

Stage riser leg units are made from tubular aluminium with galvanised steel joint pins and ultra-durable nylon resin feet. For the larger heavy-duty stage decks, the legs are thick-walled aluminium pipe with nylon caps added for floor protection.

What's the difference between a stage and a platform?

When describing stage decks you will find a lot of terms and phrases are used due to their multiple applications. To be technically correct though, a stage is a dedicated entertainment space in a building, so not necessarily raised, though most are. A platform on the other hand is a singular term for a raised plinth or surface.

When it comes to portable stage for sale, you will mostly find the words stage and platform are interchangeable, and it will be made clear to you whether you are looking at a single stage deck or a complete modular stage set.

What is a choral riser?

Most traditional churches are fairly cramped on space, especially around the altar area, leaving little room for larger choirs. A choir riser or choral rise is a system of staggered height plinths or stage platforms that allows for 3 or 4 rows of singers. The height difference between rows also greatly enhances the choir's output as nobody is singing into the back of anyone’s head.

These originally would have been permanently built from wood which limits the use of space and dictates the location. The switch to modern portable stage risers has allowed for the choir risers to be put away when not in use, and provides the freedom to transport them wherever needed, making them ideal for outdoor events.

The 1m x 1m format of each stage platform is large enough for a chair or for standing, and the option to add safety handrails is perfect both for general safety and to help with access to the higher tiers.
