Truss Systems

Truss system refers to any structure constructed using our aluminium truss. At Stage Concepts, we have an array of pre-packaged systems. For example, stage roofs, box truss systems, exhibition and trade show stands, race gantries, video wall supports and circular truss systems.

Our systems are constructed using either ladder, triangle or quad truss. The type of truss used will depend on the application and weight loading requirements. For example, a simple box truss package for use as an exhibition or trade show stand could be constructed using our lightweight deco truss. This allows for easy transport, construction and storage.

Truss that require heavy loadings such as stage roofs and video wall structures are constructed using our heavy-duty Alustage ALC34 system. If you do not see a system that fits your specification please get in contact, we can help design and supply a truss system to suit your requirements.

Stage Truss Systems

Truss systems are our pre-configured truss structures which are built using our professional aluminium truss that is manufactured in the UK and EU to the highest standards of quality and testing.

At Stage Concepts, we have an array of ready-to-go truss systems that have been put together to suit a wide variety of needs, from stage roof systems, box truss systems, exhibition stands and shop display stands, to race gantries, video wall supports and circular truss systems.

Our truss systems are constructed using either ladder, triangle or quad truss. The type of truss used will depend on the application and weight loading requirements. For example, a simple box truss package for use as an exhibition or trade show stand could be constructed using our lightweight deco truss. This allows for easy transport, construction and storage while keeping costs low.

Aluminium Truss

For general display applications and always a popular choice for exhibition stands due to its stylish aesthetic, triangle truss systems offer good loading capabilities for effects and display lighting, while also being available in a triangle pointing up (apex up) and triangle down (apex down) specification.

Truss systems for heavier loading requirements such as stage roofs and video wall structures are put together using quad truss which is designed to offer impressive performance while remaining lightweight and easy to build and breakdown. Its T6 aircraft grade aluminium is extremely durable and can be used in all weather conditions.

Our truss systems provide a structural framework that is ideal for the hanging and support of lighting and display screens, marketing materials and sound systems. These systems can be used to create temporary buildings or show arenas, with our stage roof systems and box truss systems offering turn-key solutions.

Stage Truss & Lighting Truss

Our popular truss gantry systems can be seen at marathons and sporting events up and down the country, with larger race gates and finish line truss systems featuring open sections for printed banners and single or dual pontoon style outrigging for total stability in all weather conditions.

Stage Concepts stage roof truss systems have been supplied to private events, local councils, festival organisers and large entertainment venues such as Alton Towers for their outdoor live performance shows. We specialise in bespoke stage roof systems and our packages are unique in the market, offering the aesthetics and functionality of large festival roof structures in smaller sizes that can be built easily with minimal tools and just a few hands rather than a team.

We offer our pre-configured truss systems for convenience and for an easy visual reference of what an off-the-shelf system looks like, but can work with you to design and create any specific requirements you may have, from custom truss shapes to the addition of permanent mounting points and junctions.

Stage Concepts hold large stock of standard truss systems and individual truss sections for immediate dispatch. We also pride ourselves on short lead times for any custom build truss orders, powder coating services and pvc roof and wall manufacture. We also have a large range of peripheral equipment in stock, from lighting clamps and truss connectors, to professional truss lifting towers and safety railings.

Frequently Asked...

How many types of trusses are there?

For standard aluminium truss systems its generally accepted that there are 5 design types, with those being; deco truss, ladder truss, triangle truss, quad truss and drop truss. Deco is very lightweight for display use only, and drop truss is heavy duty for stage rigging. Ladder, triangle and quad are the most common truss systems for general use.

How does a truss work?

Aluminium stage truss systems work on a modular construction design with straight sections, corners and sectional junctions (similar to children's Meccano sets) which use end-on joints with either nut and bolt, or spigot and pin connections to create a secure truss framework.

Which truss is best?

The best truss is the correct truss for the specific job requirements. You may want to use deco truss because of its lower cost, or use triangle truss as you like the shape, but each style of aluminium truss come with its own pros and cons, with weight loading limits and maximum open span lengths varying significantly between types.

How are trusses connected?

Our truss systems use two different types of connections which depend on the manufacturer and the required aesthetic. For standard ‘off the shelf’ trussing a conical coupler (sometimes called an egg) is inserted into the ends of the truss poles to help the pieces locate. It is then locked into place with a pair of steel pins. The other truss systems use a 10mm nut and bolt fixing to allow for a flush appearance.

Where is truss used?

Aluminium truss systems are used for stage lighting rigs, stage roof canopies, exhibition stands, shop display systems, and a huge variety of situations where a strong yet lightweight portable framework is needed.

How strong is a truss?

Aluminium truss is extremely strong, being a mixture of extruded T6 aircraft grade aluminium tubing that is welded with a cross strut support structure. The style of truss offers different levels of weight loading and open span deflection (natural bending under its own weight over long distance).

What weight can a winner’s podium take?

Our winner’s podiums have a strong aluminium frame and therefore can take an impressive weight load. The podiums are made of three individual stage decks to create staggered tiers, and each deck has a loading capacity of 750kg/m2 which is more than enough for most needs.

What is a truss roof system?

A truss roof system is a complete set of aluminium truss for creating a roof structure in either flat or arched designs. These are used at festivals and events for covering a stage system and providing protection from weather. The structures can be used open frame if desired but are usually covered with pvc walls and roof material.

What are applications of truss?

Truss systems are very versatile and offer a lightweight modular framework which can be used for lighting, display screens and marketing material for shows and exhibitions. It is used for sporting event finish lines, podiums, stage roof systems and can be found everywhere from popular ‘ninja’ assault courses to car showroom displays.
